Nancy the Brave

An inconvienent truth is that Communist China brutally invaded Tibet in 1949. The physical destruction, the rapes and other unspeakable perversions committed against a peaceful, religious people, are certainly war crimes.
The west did nothing.
Now the Dali Lama visits the west, and of all the public figures you can name, only House Speaker Nancy Polosi has had the cajones to speak out against the Red Chinese invasion and occupation of Tibet.
Where is Great Warrior and Yale MBA el presidente? Where is Dick "12 gauge" Cheney? Where is Newt, where is "Honest John," engineer of the "Straight Shooting Express"?
Where is Barry Obammy? Hillary Clinton? Bill Clinton?
Like cockroaches exposed to the light, they have scurried off under the stove or refrigerator.
If the United States and the overrated Harry Truman had fought the Korean War the way we fought WWII, it would have been over in 30 days and the aggressing parties, i.e. North Korea and their friends Red China and the USSR, would have sued for peace in a manner similar to the Japanese in 1945. Peking going up in a big white cloud, and the KW would have ended.
Instead, the west was found wanting.
Instead, we sent our brave men to get chewed up by endless armies and bitter winters.
Instead, because of the sins of our fathers, we still have to deal with a very dangerous Red China.
Thank you, Speaker Polosi. There is at least one person in Foggy Bottom with the cajones to speak the truth about the communist Chinese.

China

China is the biggest threat this country will ever face. All the politicians are too afraid to do anything meaningful, and soon enough, it'll be too late.

a few brave women

If I were the cynical type (and I am) I would hazzard a guess that China is far more important to our government leaders in the grand scheme of things than a few obscure monks. If they happened to be sitting on enormous oil reserves it might be a different matter, but they aren't, so too bad for them.

I would like to believe the Speaker spoke out out of the goodness of her heart, but again, my confounded cynicism gets in the way. I'm curious as to why it took an upcoming Olympics to break the sounds of silence on her part. Could this just be a ploy on her part to embarrass the current administration? Surely not.

The second place candidate for the Democrat presidential nomination also suggested that the Bush administration take the extreme measure of boycotting the opening ceremonies. The ultimate in pointless political grandstanding. One has to wonder if she took such a tough stance while as co-president, she was taking illegal contributuions from the Chinese. Care to wager on that one?

Sadly, I'm of the opinion that this country will fall from greatness, and there's absolutely nothing we can do to stop the decline. This is what happens when a small group of power mad and money hungry politicians and self serving business leaders manage to assume complete control over an apathetic, greedy, lazy, unthinking constituency.

Most people don't even want to hear the truth anymore, that would be inconvenient. It looks to be time to start selling rose-colored glasses.

I have seen the enemy and boy are we in some scheizer

I agree with the "fall from greatness." I also can't help but fear that we will also go out with a bang. By that I mean a shooting war with the Chicoms et al via proxys such as Iran and N.Korea or the Taiwan question. The Being Olympic games strike incredible parallels with the 1936 Munich games to me. A prelude to war.

can of worms (assorted flavors)

A big bang, or lots of little ones? While I'll admit we're more than capable of electing inept leaders, surely none of them would choose to grind it out on the ground against the vast Chinese hordes. I believe if, or rather, when China decides to "repatriate" Taiwan, the US will bluster and posture a bit and then end up calling for a UN resolution of condemnation. A meaningless "feel good" gesture that will show the world how the mighty have fallen. This country lacks the resolve to face off against China on it's own, and we certainly wouldn't get any help from our "allies".

Other than nukes, which China won't allow North Korea to use directly, all Kim Jong-il can do is attack South Korea. That is a possibility, but an unlikely one. This guy is little more than a Napoleon wannabe, but is smart enough to follow orders.

Iran, on the other hand, is quite possibly fanatical and crazy enough to use nukes against Israel once they have them. Israel can't afford to let this happen and will strike (hard) preemptively as a simple matter of survival. The question is, can they do so effectively without using nuclear weapons? Without substantial US help, I would say no. With or without help, Israel won't wait until it's too late and this is my pick for the start of WWIII. Who knows how far it will escalate.

I hope I'm wrong.

Inconvenient Trvth

Amen. The Chinese own the Clintons, the Mexicans own the Bushes. Carl Marx owns B.O.
