"Republicans reeling after House loss"

That headline in my local newspaper, followed by "Stunned House Republicans vowed campaign changes..." sadly and clearly illustrates why and how the greatest threat we face as a nation today is not an oil shortage, not a turrist attack, not a chicken flu pandemic, but the utter vacuum in leadership at the highest levels.
The Communist Chinese, in between digging out the few earthquake survivors on one hand and thanking Marx on the other that there will be 20,000 fewer mouths to feed, must awaken each day thinking they MUST be living in a dream world. Surely they will awaken and discover that their most mortal enemy is NOT run by a bunch of Bickersons whose narcissistic desires end at the tip of their greedy little noses.
Surely the party of Reagan could not have devolved to fools who utter such inanities as, "'Clearly, I think we've got to do a better job' going into the November elections, said the Republican leader, Rep John Boehner..." the AP story by David Espo continues.
The republicans have succeeded in becoming just as detached, just as stupid, just as deserving of the unemployment line as most any democrat.
Boys and girls--Boehner and Newtie and Trent and Dennie and Yale MBA and Rover and the rest of the stoopublican "thinkers"--when will you learn that your arrogance, your incompetence, your disinterest in serving rather than ruling is why you are Democrat Light?
You are swimming against a riptide.
Why would neo-comms vote for you when they have real communists and socialists to vote for?
You don't care about the Mexican border, you don't care about the illegal North American Union that is being conspired for by your so-called leadership, you don't care that Rumsfeld and W and Rice and the rest of the gang went blind into Baghdad.
The entire stoopublican "leadership" structure needs to be fired.
One hundred people who have a grip and know what's going on and think the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are more important than the R after your name could EASILY be found to replace you.
Good riddance.

power

No matter what their intentions going in, the system always seems to ensnare and corrupt seemingly good people and turn them into typical, corrupt, run of the mill, power mad politicians. I'm beginning to wonder if computers might not be a better choice.

birds of a feather

There is no real difference between republicans and democrats. About the only thing I can see is that republicans want to ruin the country a little more slowly.

You're Fired!

I get the feeling that you're not overly optimistic about the (downward) direction the Republican party has chosen to follow. I can assure you that a lot of others are feeling the same way. Most every conservative I talk to is angry, perplexed, and disgusted with the party's pleas (or attempted orders) to convince us to all be good little soldiers and climb on the runaway train. I can only speak for myself of course, but it just ain't gonna happen, not this time nor ever again. Despite feeling uncomfortable by doing so, I held my nose and voted Republican in 2006, not that it mattered anyway. My one way loyalty is now used up.

I reached the peak of my enthusiasm for the party in the 1990's. I was very involved politically and foolishly believed that we had at last elected honorable conservative leaders who would finally stem the socialist/communist tide that was steadily destoying everything good about our country. Boy, was I ever wrong! Most all Repubicans elected in 1994 were either spineless wimps or decided to act exactly like the Democrats they replaced. Almost to a person, they abandoned their pledge of smaller, less intrusive government and started spending money like crazed lottery winners. I couldn't have felt more betrayed.

You're completely right in saying "good riddance" to the lot of them. There's no good reason to continue to support a bunch of losers and appeasers who have resigned themselves to a strategy of gradual (sometimes not so gradual) retreat. They've proven time and again that they're incapable of following the will of the people who elected them, so the only chance we have is to start fresh. I'm not overly optimistic that a fresh group wouldn't fall into the same pattern, but at least we can say that "We the People" did our part.

The party has lost its way

and in no way resembles the party of Regan or even Gingrich. Although I remain hopeful that somehow, somewhere another Regan will arise to return the party to its conservative principals I wonder if such a person might already be too late. The only saving grace of this mess is that the Democrats are almost as un-unified as the republicans with their hatred of Bush being practically the only unifying force ATM. Time will tell but its getting awful dark out there.

Twilight's last gleaming

I'm afraid you may be right in stating that even if we do get another great leader now, it may be too late. It doesn't really matter if the Democrats are in disarray or not, because they always seem to be able to advance their destructive agenda no matter what. That's as much the Republican's fault as anyone's, for always fighting a defensive battle. You can't ever win by allowing the other side to constantly be on the attack.
